In the past gas fires had only one function and that was purely as a heating appliance. These were essentially outset gas fires containing 3,4,or 5 white ceramic radiants, sitting over a burner which when heated glowed red. Then we were introduced to the DFE's [Decorative Fuel Effect] fires pionered by a company called Kolangaz [Coal and gas]. A gas fire that had the allure and charm of the beloved open coal fire ... dancing flames, glowing coals and cinders but without the associated mess and inconveniences. Today's advancements in technology offers gas fires which are far more than just a heating appliance and again are the heart of the home. All budgets and installation requirements are catered for, whether it be traditional or contemporary in design.
